January 17th Recital - details & directions

The student recital will be held Saturday, January 17th at 3:00pm at Christ's Community Church (CCC) in Hayward. The address of the church is: 25927 Kay Avenue in Hayward . For driving directions to CCC, follow this link. **Plenty of parking will be available in the neighborhood surrounding the church This recital will feature one group of performers. The recital is scheduled to begin at 3:00pm. There will be 2 groups of performers: - Group 1 starts at 2:30pm - Group 2 starts at 4:00pm Each student will know ahead of time which group they are a part of. Performers:  - please arrive 20 minutes early  - dress code: nice casual  - performers with long hair: plan to wear your hair up or pulled back  - students need to bring their own sheet music; I will not have copies of anyone's music at the recital No tickets or entry fee required for this event -- all are welcome. May 21st Recital -- Details & Directions

The student recital will be held Saturday, May 21st in the CSUEB Music Building in room 1055 . For a CSUEB campus map, follow this link (the Music Building is the donut-shaped building on the left of the map, abbreviated as "MB"). **Weekend parking at CSUEB is free There will be 2 groups of performers: - Group 1 starts at 2:30pm - The Beatles set will start circa 4:00pm - Group 2 starts at 4:30pm Each student will know ahead of time which group they are a part of. November 3rd Pop Concert at Smalltown Space

The Pop Concert will be presented Sunday, 11/3 at Smalltown Space in Castro Valley. The venue is located at 22222 Redwood Rd. right next door to the Trader Joe's. Parking may be tricky on a Sunday afternoon. I have been assured that we are allowed to park anywhere around the building - either in the Trader Joe's parking spaces or in the First Presbyterian Church parking areas. See parking areas highlighted in blue in the image below. The maximum occupancy of the space is 50. Family and friends are welcome to attend this event, but we will need to limit the number to no more than 4 guests per performer. December 2014 Teaching Schedule

-- I will only be teaching the first two weeks of December. For most students this means only two lessons this month. My last regular teaching day will be Thursday, 12/11. Lesson payments for December need to include a  $15 per student recital fee . -- The next student recital will be held  Saturday, December 13th  from 2 to 6pm in the recital hall at CSUEB. Details about this event are posted on this website. -- For students participating in  Certificate of Merit  this spring, here are the CM dates for 2015: The performance evaluation date will be one of these: 2/14, 2/15, 2/21, or 2/22 The theory testing is either  3/7 or 3/8  (your choice) -- There will be no song of the month for December. -- The regular lesson schedule will resume in the new year on Sunday, January 4th. -- At the end of November I will not be teaching from Wednesday, 11/26 through Sunday 11/30 in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. -- The next student recital will be held  Saturday, December 13th  from 2 to 6pm in the recital hall at CSUEB. Please save the date! -- Students participating in  Certificate of Merit  this spring are now officially enrolled. I will be collecting CM fees along with the November lesson payment. -- Here are the CM dates for 2015: The performance evaluation date will be one of these: 2/14, 2/15, 2/21, or 2/22 The theory testing is either 3/7 or 3/8 (your choice) -- The song of the month for November is "1234" by Feist. How much does it cost to put on a recital at CSUEB?

Something I've been meaning to post here for a while. A breakdown of the cost of organizing a recital at CSUEB: 4-hour room reservation (w/ piano): $285 Event insurance: $83 Room monitor: approx. $50 (often this person doesn't show up) 100 Recital programs: $69.92 (this cost is exorbitant) Stamps for correspondence: $1 Additional outlays: - 6 hours of unpaid group rehearsal time - Gas & vehicle mileage - 3-4 hours spent formatting the program

June 2014 Teaching schedule

-- My teaching schedule for June will be uninterrupted. Lesson payments for June should be made out for the full month  plus the $15 per student recital fee . -- The next student recital is scheduled for the afternoon of  Saturday, June 21st  in the music building recital hall at CSUEB.  Group 1 will begin at 2:30pm and Group 2 will begin at 4:00pm. I know that many of you will be traveling for vacation during those months. March 2014 Teaching Schedule

December 2013 Teaching Schedule

-- For the month of December, I will be teaching my normal weekly schedule through Saturday, 12/21. For most students this means we will meet for three lessons in December.  December lesson payments should be made out for the number of lessons  plus the $15 per student recital fee . There will be a two week winter break running from 12/22 to 1/3. Normal service resumes on Saturday, January 4th. -- The next student recital will be held  Sunday, December 8th  from 2 to 6pm in the recital hall at CSUEB. All the pertinent details (i.e. directions, start times) can be found on this blog. -- There is no  Theta Music Trainer  assignment for the month of December. -- There will be no song of the month for December. September 2013 Teaching Schedule

-- I will not be teaching on Monday, 9/2 (Labor Day). Other than that, the month's lessons will be uninterrupted. -- Each student will receive an updated and revised studio policy printout from me at their first lesson of September. The most significant changes to the policies are my increased lesson fees and the upcoming institution of a "Swap List" for whenever a student needs to reschedule a lesson.  -- The Song of the Month for September is "Another One Bites the Dust" by Queen. -- The next student recital will be held  Sunday, December 8  from 2 to 6pm in the recital hall at CSUEB.
