January 17th Recital - details & directions

The student recital will be held Saturday, January 17th at 3:00pm at Christ's Community Church (CCC) in Hayward. The address of the church is: 25927 Kay Avenue in Hayward . For driving directions to CCC, follow this link. **Plenty of parking will be available in the neighborhood surrounding the church This recital will feature one group of performers. The recital is scheduled to begin at 3:00pm. There will be 2 groups of performers: - Group 1 starts at 2:30pm - Group 2 starts at 4:00pm Each student will know ahead of time which group they are a part of. Performers:  - please arrive 20 minutes early  - dress code: nice casual  - performers with long hair: plan to wear your hair up or pulled back  - students need to bring their own sheet music; I will not have copies of anyone's music at the recital No tickets or entry fee required for this event -- all are welcome. November 3rd Pop Concert at Smalltown Space

The Pop Concert will be presented Sunday, 11/3 at Smalltown Space in Castro Valley. The venue is located at 22222 Redwood Rd. right next door to the Trader Joe's. Parking may be tricky on a Sunday afternoon. I have been assured that we are allowed to park anywhere around the building - either in the Trader Joe's parking spaces or in the First Presbyterian Church parking areas. See parking areas highlighted in blue in the image below. The maximum occupancy of the space is 50. Family and friends are welcome to attend this event, but we will need to limit the number to no more than 4 guests per performer. Spring Composition Challenge: Back to the Future IV theme

The Back to the Future trilogy of movies is one of the most beloved film franchises in American cinema history. For anyone unfamiliar with this series, this link will tell you everything you need to know . The second movie of the trilogy famously featured the lead characters Marty McFly and Doc Brown traveling to the future year of 2015. Viewers are treated to a wild collection of futuristic conceits: flying cars, hoverboards, self-lacing sneakers, and the Chicago Cubs being baseball world series champions! Since we now find ourselves in the year 2015, I think it would be interesting to consider the Back to the Future trilogy once again and imagine a fourth film in the series. Back to the Future IV would be set in the year 2045 and... the rest is up to you. December 2014 Teaching Schedule

-- I will only be teaching the first two weeks of December. For most students this means only two lessons this month. My last regular teaching day will be Thursday, 12/11. Lesson payments for December need to include a  $15 per student recital fee . -- The next student recital will be held  Saturday, December 13th  from 2 to 6pm in the recital hall at CSUEB. Details about this event are posted on this website. -- For students participating in  Certificate of Merit  this spring, here are the CM dates for 2015: The performance evaluation date will be one of these: 2/14, 2/15, 2/21, or 2/22 The theory testing is either  3/7 or 3/8  (your choice) -- There will be no song of the month for December. -- The regular lesson schedule will resume in the new year on Sunday, January 4th.
